Professor Ulrich Walder from the Graz University of Technology will present his latest rechearch in the field of IMU navigation. This presentation is free for everyone to attend without the need to register for the conference.

Ulrich Walder

Professor Ulrich Walder was born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1948. He received his degree in civil engineering in 1971 and his Ph.D. in the field of finite elements, in 1977, both at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. During the last 30 years he founded and managed several software companies. Parallel to the civil career he served in the Swiss Army up to the rank of a major general. Since 2004 he is professor for Information Technology in Civil Engineering at Graz University of Technology. His main research is in the field of pedestrian navigation in urban environments and GPS denied areas, mainly for first responders, handicapped people and location based services.

Abstract

The presentation will focus on the following points:

  • Theoretical background (motion pattern analysis for ZUPT detection, extended Kalman filters, direct drift compensation, etc)
  • Hybrid solutions and sensor fusion
  • The AIONAV developer framework
  • Results of practical applications in various fields (First responders, military, LBS).
