Welcome to Pisa

The WNlab group of ISTI-CNR is glad to welcome attendees of IPIN 2019 in the beautiful town of Pisa, Italy.

The venue is the congress palace of Pisa (Palazzo dei Congressi), Via Giacomo Matteotti 1, 56124 Pisa (PI).

How to reach Pisa

Pisa is easily reached by plane, train or car. It is a small city where it is easy to walk around. The congress venue is about 1 km from Ponte di Mezzo, the bridge over the Arno river which is the central place in town, and the airport is only 2 km from there, so you can even reach the town centre by foot from the airport!

Moving around by car is easy but may get expensive as parking is almost always not free.

Airplane

It is the fast and easy choice. Pisa Airport is very close to the city. Among the possibilities to move from the airport, we suggest you use a taxi or the people mover which has frequent connections to the train station, where you can find a bus or have a walk into the city centre.

European attendees may easily find a direct flight to Pisa, which is served by several airlines, including Ryanair. Intercontinental flights will likely need a connection through an European airport: we suggest you use one of the many web services that search for flight connections around the world. You should consider Pisa or Firenze as your destination airport. Firenze is about one hour's train distance. The biggest international airports that can be considered are Milano and Roma, but both are at some hours' train distance from Pisa, so it is generally easier to choose Pisa or Firenze as your plane final destination.

Moving around Pisa

Walking is the easiest way, and the time in early October is usually perfect: not hot but still warm. However, Autumn is also known for rains and the occasional cold wind, so be prepared and check a whether forecast service.

Car

Some roads in the city centre, notably those by the river, are not accessible unless you have a special permission. Look for the ZTL signs, which indicate limited car access areas. Some hotels provide a permission to enter the centre in the hotel area, ask your hotel if this is the case.

The Congress Palace is not inside the ZTL: they can be accessed without any special permission.

You can find a map of the city parking lots by checking the right boxes.

There is a monitored parking lot right in front of the Congress Palace and parking areas nearby. Very little and sparse free parking, unfortunately. On street sides, white lines indicates free parking, while blue lines means paid street parking. When you park in blue lines parkings, look for a payment machine nearby where you can get a receipt. Put the receipt inside the car, visible from the outside.
